Admiral Ushakov Maritime State University – it is a major center of transport science in the South of Russia. The University employs 42 doctors of sciences, professors, 245 candidates of sciences, associate professors. The teaching staff of the University consists of 391 people. The training of highly qualified personnel at the University is provided by postgraduate studies, doctoral studies and two doctoral dissertation councils headed by Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor S.I. Kondratiev. Preparation of candidates of sciences is carried out in the areas of training (specialties):

The preparation of doctors of science is carried out in doctoral studies in the scientific specialty 05.08.05 "Ship power plants and their elements (main and auxiliary)". Since 1994, there has been a dissertation council for defending dissertations for the degree of candidate of technical sciences, and since 2001, a doctoral council. He considers dissertations for the degree of candidate and doctor of technical sciences in the specialties:

• 05.08.05 – Ship power plants and their elements (main and auxiliary)
• 05.22.19 – Operation of water transport, navigation.

Since 2007, the University has opened a doctoral dissertation council on the specialty 20.01.06 - "Military training and education, combat training, military pedagogy and psychology, management of the daily activities of troops" to defend dissertations for the scientific degrees of candidate and doctor of technical and military sciences.
